Industry Drivers
Telemetry has been used in the water industry to monitor the dispersed asset base for over 30 years. Consequently there is an on going need to replace data monitoring/field devices due to obsolescence. In addition there are other drivers to update these devices including the need to monitor additional signals for performance improvement, as well as to log the asset condition for regulatory purposes.
Remote Asset Monitoring Policy
Grontmij works with utility companies to develop remote asset monitoring policies for each asset type including carrying out a risk and consequence of failure analysis.
Water Industry Telemetry Standards – Protocol Standard
Grontmij fully supports the WITS initiative to produce an industry wide common standard for field device protocol based on DNP3. Being a founding supporter of the group, Grontmij has a detailed knowledge of the protocol and can assist in its implementation with water industry clients. In addition, we have extensive knowledge of the different communications available and can provide detailed assistance in selection depending on risk and priority.
Field Device Replacement
Over the years, Grontmij has been responsible for the replacement or introduction of over 15,000 field devices or outstations across many of the major water companies. We have developed detailed systems of work and processes for installing outstations and their associated installation.
This includes all aspects of health & safety legislation including the production and use of method statements and risk assessments.
We have established methods of working to organise the logistics associated with gaining access to a large number of geographically dispersed sites. We have engineers who are experienced in both the overall planning and the day to day organisation of site access.
Outstation Installation and Configuration Services
At Grontmij we have developed the ability to provide a complete installation service or “one stop shop”. This includes all aspects including configuration of the outstations. We have software tools to provide a complete tracking service of the installation including costs and timescales.
Procurement Management
Finally, Grontmij has several different contract and procurement models to suit different drivers and scales of implementation. These include fixed price and schedule of rates as two examples.
