Scoping / Feasibility
Grontmij’s flexible approach to working arrangements allows for a different methodology to be applied suiting each client’s specific needs. Early participation during scoping stage is not always required but the benefit of early design team involvement has been seen within many of our water utility clients. This early involvement helps to quickly gain a clear picture of the problems to be addressed and enables an efficient delivery of the feasibility process.
Led by our experienced civil engineers supported by process and mechanical and electrical engineers Grontmij is able to use these skills to combine the operator and maintainer’s knowledge of a works or plant
and the specific local environment together with the project drivers to develop workable, realistic and sustainable options. The use of whole life costing analyses provides a financial comparison tool to assist option selection.
Detailed Design
Treatment works / process design projects range from very small asset maintenance projects on small rural sites through to major upgrades on critical treatment works. An understanding of the client’s systems and working methods as well as knowledge of the existing works process is critical. This ensures that the benefits can be delivered without significant impact on the ongoing operation and quality output from the works.
Grontmij considers the management of the risks to the operation of the works alongside the construction and design risks when managing all treatment works / process design projects. Detailed design is undertaken directly for water companies or in a design and build environment depending on the particular client’s procurement strategy. Grontmij has successful experience of both models.
