Spend to Save Scheme
Improved energy efficiency yields cost savings
Scottish Water's £200m Spend to Save initiative targeted ways of making their business more effective and cost efficient. Energy projects were one of the workstreams that were seen to be worth substantial investment, with potential for delivering the investment to the five year payback period defined by the programme sponsor.
Grontmij investigated the potential and produced business cases for applying energy saving technologies to Scottish Water’s asset base including heating controls, automated aeration control systems, variable speed pumping, pumping station control system modelling and hydro power.
£1.5m of annual savings
The most attractive business cases were promoted and projects progressed to delivery using delivery partners from Scottish Water’s Approved Contractors list.
Following completion of the works, energy savings were tracked and business cases confirmed. The realised savings for the promoted projects totalled approximately £1.5m annually.
