Medge Hall wins again
Grontmij picked up another award win with Carillion, at the Network Rail Partnership Awards.
The award was given to the Medge Hall embankment stabilisation project in the category of Best Project (Medium).
The Best Project award recognises a project delivered by a supplier that has brought benefits to Britain’s railways. The judges look for measurable results that demonstrate the effectiveness of the project and the benefits it has brought and as well as evidence of an impeccably planned and delivered project.
There were a number of obstacles that confronted the project team including site location, ground conditions and timescales for the works. The purpose of the project was to stabilise two rail lines crossing a peat bog near Crowle.
Grontmij worked closely with Carillion to produce the best solution possible for the project. The permanent works involved the construction of a concrete slab supported on 1350 piles, confirmatory site investigation and an extensive phase of trial piling.
The Network Rail award is the second to be given to the Medge Hall project, with the ICE Yorkshire and Humber branch giving an award for ‘Excellence’ in March.
