Brighton International Arena

Improving Brighton’s seafront

The proposed Brighton International Arena is located on Brighton’s seafront, adjacent to the Grade II Listed Kemp Town Slopes and Duke’s Mound overlooked by a conservation area and adjacent to a SNCI - the location is therefore particularly sensitive.

Whitelaw Turkington prepared the landscape and visual impact assessment as part of the environment statement, and detailed design to planning.

Creating a multi-purpose habitat

As part of the mitigation strategy, in response to visual impact and sustainability issues, an extensive biodiverse roof is proposed spanning both the site and the adjacent residential block. The roof will cover approximately 12,500m² creating habitats relating to the beach, coastal walks and cliffs. The design will explore a lightweight soilless growing medium of pre-sown species in felt to meet the constraints of establishing habitat in an exposed location.
