Combined assessments
Grontmij was commissioned to undertake a combined water resource and contaminated land assessment of key military establishments in a UK territory.
The project comprised a detailed hydrogeological desk study and production of a preliminary conceptual model. This was followed by an intrusive investigation which provided a regional scale groundwater monitoring network and delineated the extent of hydrocarbon contamination.
Results
The site investigation provided information on aquifer characteristics and the presence, nature and distribution of groundwater contamination.
An assessment of environmental liability was undertaken taking account of the resource potential of the aquifers present. Management options were then developed for further monitoring, investigation and remediation.
