Assessing the impact of abstractions
Grontmij, as part of the @one Alliance for Anglian Water, is investigating the potential impacts and, if required, mitigating groundwater and surface water abstractions under the Water Resources Environment Programme for AMP4.
Extensive investigations
The activities include desk studies and site investigations to assess the impact of surface water and groundwater abstractions on designated sites. Specifically, this involved the design of the observation boreholes and activities such as the construction, pump (signal) testing, spot flow gauging, hydro-chemical surveys, river habitats and botanical surveys, and habitat impact assessments.
The study informed the overall appraisal of options and the review of the Environment Agency’s regional groundwater models. Extensive liaison with Natural England and the Environment Agency was required.
