Combined heat and power & district heating
Maximising efficiency improvements
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems allow the simultaneous generation of electricity and heat to achieve significant efficiency improvements. The heat produced can be used for process, space, and district heating as well as cooling (trigeneration).
Efficiency through district heating
District heating systems distribute heat, usually via low temperature hot water, generated in centralised plant for use in residential, commercial and/or industrial heating applications. This is highly efficient when compared with individual fossil fuelled boilers.
Our experience
Grontmij has vast experience in this field ranging from large scale district heating projects associated with dedicated plants and energy from waste plants to smaller scale CHP schemes such as digester heating systems for water utilities. Through our 35 years experience worldwide, we have capability in all areas of district heating operation including:
- Feasibility studies
- Load profiling
- Hydraulic assessment
- Fuel review
- Technical due diligence
- Market studies
- Preliminary design
- Environmental impact assessment
- Environmental permitting and legislative advice
- Project management
- Detailed design
- Electricity grid connection
- Commissioning and start up assistance
