Peninsula Square, Greenwich
Peninsula Square, Greenwich
Providing the gateway to the O2 area
The first phase of extensive development plans for Greenwich, Peninsula Square is a focal point around which the new commercial district on the Peninsula will evolve. The square is the gateway to The O2, formerly known as the Millennium Dome.
A vibrant outdoor space
Opened in June 2007, the granite-paved square boasts an outdoor performance area, computer controlled lighting and water features. Special events and performances will also be staged regularly, creating a vibrant new outdoor space for London, on a square equivalent in size to Leicester Square.
A permanent performance stage
The design incorporates a sweeping canopy linking North Greenwich station to the O2 entrance, a permanent performance stage, substantial tree planting and water features. A tall ‘spire’ is placed as a permanent art installation, providing a strong visual reference from all parts of the Peninsula.
